Conscious states may be caused by physical changes in the brain, but conscious states are themselves causally inert. They are a causal dead end. This view is widely seen as counterintuitive. It’s truly weird. It says that the conscious feeling of pain does not cause our screaming or our evasive action. That all occurs because of prior action in the brain. The feeling is just an inert by-product.

So, because it, too, is silent about one side of the ledger, perception can’t tell us about the connection. But what about an inference based on perception, or more to the point, an inference based upon the theories and 24 Mysterianism observations of science?
